Trogon Lodge, Cerro de la Muerte
The Trogón Lodge, quetzal observation
A destination in the cloud forest of Costa Rica.
Trogon Lodge is located about a 2-hour drive south of San José, high up in the mountains, on the route to Cerro de la Muerte , near the town of San Gerardo de Dota . The lodge is located in the middle of the green cloud forest at an altitude of just over 2200 m in the valley of the Rio Savegre. The Savegre is considered the cleanest river in Central America. A visit to San Gerardo de Dota is ideal on the way there or back from the south of Costa Rica or Panama to Santa Ana.
San Gerardo de Dota is known for the numerous presence of the quetzal in the surrounding forests. The lodge organizes guided tours where you are almost certain to see and hear one.
The Quetzal belongs to the Trogon family - hence the name of the lodge.
Trogon Lodge is the perfect place for ornithologists, but also for anyone who loves untouched nature.
The lodge has 23 comfortable rooms, all with bathroom and hot water. In addition, the rooms all have heating - that is necessary here. The spacious garden is filled with native plants - the garden alone is a reason to come here.
The Quetzal Restaurant offers delicious and typical food, a specialty being the trout freshly caught from our own ponds. The bar has an outdoor terrace.
The lodge has its own canopy facility and there are lots of interesting hiking trails, including a great waterfall, which you can start on your own without any problems. Guided tours are also offered - on foot or on horseback.
Very good and professional, prices depending on the season, on request
