Experience nature in Costa Rica. This building block fits perfectly at the beginning of a trip to Costa Rica and combines 5 major goals that are simply part of a Costa Rica trip: The international arrival in the central valley with 2 comfortable nights and a day to arrive, river rafting on the Rio Pacuare - one of the most exciting and remote destinations in all of Costa Rica, the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean of Costa Rica, the wildlife-rich Tortuguero National Park and the Braulio Carrillo National Park - which in our opinion is the most exciting national park in the entire country. In any case, it is one of the most unknown areas of Costa Rica, despite its proximity to the Central Valley.
We organize the coordination between our own modules so brilliantly that travel times remain as short and cheap as possible and we organize everything with safe transfers.
The duration of the module is flexible, as a suggestion we describe 10 days/9 nights. However, this can be expanded to include other very exciting destinations or you can also add days - this can be discussed with us. A rental car is not required for these travel modules - this would be more of a hindrance. Because the destinations are so remote that you can't easily reach them by car. After these ten days of adventure, we can have a rental car handed over at the end of the route, in Horquetas - on the slope of Braulio Carrillo NP.
The tour starts in our small Posada Nena in Santa Ana, beautifully located with the second best climate in the world. There is a phone card here, we will help you set up Waze and we have maps and travel documents here. From here you can easily hike the Cerros de Escazú or San José on your own.
On the 3rd day we set off early for one of the most exciting adventures you can experience in Costa Rica. A rafting trip on the Rio Pacuare. You drive a total of 30 km on the most remote river in all of Costa Rica - only at the very end do you feel that civilization still exists. The entire route leads through absolutely inaccessible and wild land, with high rocks and impenetrable jungle lining the banks. You have to conquer 38 rapids, 4 of them class IV, the others class II and III. Class V would be the highest level, so it will be quite exciting. If someone prefers it quieter, then we can try to plan a soft rafting tour on the Rio Reventazón as an alternative with easy rapids of max. Class II, well suited for families or guests who prefer something a little quieter. This is more of an animal watching tour than an adventure tour. However, the tour only takes place with a minimum of 4 people - and almost everyone wants to experience the Rio Pacuare.
The tour ends in our Posada Nena in Puerto Viejo in the Caribbean, where you can reflect on the day's experiences with a cool beer. The town and the surrounding area offer fantastic options for the next few days, all of which can be easily explored by bike: beaches, rivers, animals, Ara Center - there is so much to do and do that the 3 days fly by .
Then the next jungle experience begins. The flora and fauna of Tortuguero National Park is unique in the world. Our guides have a lot of experience and background knowledge and are available to answer any questions.
The following tour is included in the two days: a guided early tour with a medium-sized kayak with an electric auxiliary motor in the early morning. You drive deep into the Tortuguero National Park, where you see and get to know a variety of animals and plants. The bird world is particularly active at this time of day and you can see some of the national park's over 300 bird species. You also get detailed explanations about the tropical rainforest and its inhabitants. Entrance to the national park has to be paid extra, it's best to do this in advance from Puerto Viejo - as you have to buy it online and the network in Puerto Viejo is much more stable and faster.
Later we visit the town of Tortuguero: a nice, friendly place where the taxis are bicycles with trailers. Tortuguero is located directly on the beach and has a friendly atmosphere. You can visit the nice museum or just stroll through the streets and enjoy life away from civilization.
An absolute attraction is the turtle spawning: this is only possible in the spawning season from July to October and is an unforgettable experience. You go to the beach at night and watch one of the giant turtles laying its eggs and then the nest again shovels. The whole thing is strictly monitored by volunteers so that the turtles are not disturbed in their work. Photography and white flashlights are strictly prohibited; dark clothing is mandatory. This tour is optional and you have to register separately with the guide. The time and place of the visit are chosen at random - the tour usually takes place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. or from 10 p.m. to midnight.
The journey then continues into the absolute wilderness. Covering over 50 thousand hectares, Braulio Carrillo NP is considered one of the most diverse parks in terms of wildlife and biodiversity. Our lodge is practically in the middle of the park in the absolute wilderness, with its own private access to the park. You can't experience nature more purer than this. You spend 2 nights here, including half board and an exciting, very individual tour every day.
The end of the trip will be in Horquetas. Here we can have a rental car handed over to explore the rest of the republic or the journey can continue with another means of transport.
