Colorful family trip to Costa Rica
Experience Costa Rica with family & children
As a family, you often feel the need to set your own rhythm when traveling. That’s why our individual tours are perfect for families.
We combine individual advice and planning with a lot of experience, as we are constantly traveling as a family and have tried out all the destinations suggested here. The tours in this form are suitable for children from around 4-5 years old up to adolescence - depending on age and preferences, we can make certain adjustments.
The entire trip presented here is just an idea - we plan the dream family trip together until every last detail fits perfectly.
Day 1: Arrival in Costa Rica
Arrival in San José and transfer to our posada in Santa Ana. Depending on the age of the children, accommodation in a family room or in 2 adjacent rooms. Delicious dinner.

Day 3: Look into one of the largest volcanic craters in the world
Today we set off early in the morning to one of the main attractions in the Central Valley. A great combination of 3 interesting destinations.
The Irazú volcano is a stratovolcano and is 3,432 m high, making it the highest volcano in Costa Rica. and has one of the largest volcanic craters in the world. The walk to the volcano crater is not strenuous. When visibility is good, you can take a look into the huge crater and also see the two oceans. Things get exciting when the Irazú volcano spews steaming water into the air. From the main crater you hike through bizarre stunted forest, which is caused by the acidic air and the cold. Open your eyes: some rare bird species can be observed here.
There is a delicious lunch and a lot to see in the Lankester Botanical Garden, where you can also visit the idyllic Orosital.

Day 4: Contact with animals
After a detailed breakfast, we head off to the El Rodeo nature reserve . With a bit of luck, you can already observe the first jungle inhabitants in the protected area, which includes one of the last contiguous forests in the central valley. Monkeys frolic in the trees, toucans fly screeching on their way and the cozy sloths hang lazily in the trees. The region is explored on horseback. We walk through the dense forests at a leisurely pace (the horses are ideal for children and beginners). You can enjoy your first tour through the Costa Rican rainforest in peace. Gourmet lunch in an idyllic atmosphere in the small lodge.

5th + 6th day: Animal observation in Tortuguero National Park
Early we head to the boat launch to Tortuguero National Park, which is one of the most famous national parks on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. As a starting point for the excursions into the dense rainforest and the animal-rich canals, we choose a classic camp with a few advantages:
- large swimming pool to really relax during tour breaks
- excellent food a la carte
- There are many internal tours and attractions in the camp, such as the butterfly garden, ranarium, botanical garden - everything is excellently looked after and lovingly explained
- Great and understandable explanations from the guides
- The camp is located directly on the beach, which is not suitable for swimming, but offers a very special attraction: from June to October, the large leatherback turtles lay their eggs directly in the sand on the beach. An exciting and very special experience for young and old.
- Some camp tours are included, others can be booked additionally. The kayak trip through the quiet tributaries is a particularly great attraction, after you have had a detailed explanation of the flora and fauna of the national park on a boat trip through the canals

Day 7 - 10: Pure Caribbean
Now it's time to relax on Caribbean beaches. In the afternoon transfer to nearby Puerto Viejo de Tlamanca and accommodation there in a fine posada near the beach. The Cahuita Maritime National Park and the Gandoca Manzanillo Nature Reserve are both easily accessible and offer a colorful world of intact corals and beautifully colored fish. The place offers relaxation and creates a Caribbean feeling. In addition, there are many other natural attractions and tour options, such as rainforest tours, visits to the Bribri Indians, snorkel masks and beach chairs are included with us,

Day 10: Caribbean - Central Valley
In the afternoon transfer from Cahuita to Santa Ana . Possibility to do laundry and possibly store luggage. Here you have the opportunity to spend another night on a farm near the Braulio Carrillo National Park. Fantastic opportunity to be in nature on your own and to go on exciting tours that are family-friendly.
Day 11: Start of the second leg of the family trip
It goes north-west towards la Fortuna. The transfer bus goes from hotel to hotel.
Arrival is at midday, the afternoon is free in la Fortuna, where there is a lot to do.
Day 11 - 14: around the Arenal Volcano
La Fortuna de San Carlos is also the place with the famous Arenal Volcano. A very special spectacle. Arenal Volcano is still considered the most active volcano in Central America, although it has been relatively quiet lately. The hotel is strategically located with spectacular views of the more active side of the volcano and at the same time of the idyllic Lake Arenal. You can watch the volcano from the warm whirlpool or the wet bar by the pool. Numerous species of birds can be observed up close from this position.
The area around the hotel and the Arenal Volcano offers plenty of tour options. Volcano hikes in the nearby national park, hanging bridges over deep gorges and high peaks - ideal for observing the wonderful world of the cloud forest from above. Canopy, quads, horseback riding, boat trips on Lake Arenal... everything your heart desires is on offer here.
from the 15th day and more
The remaining days are intended for relaxation on one of the numerous dream beaches on the Pacific coast. Because now the sand castle is coming - on a tropical surfer beach.
We recommend visiting Samara, one of the most beautiful beaches in Guanacaste. The sheltered location is perfect for beginners to learn to surf and ride waves. Parents can join in with a bodyboard or comment from one of the many beach restaurants with a cocktail in hand.
And of course there are many other activities for the whole family: you can go out with the fishermen - real deep sea fishing.
A very special attraction on the Nicoya Peninsula is a flight in an autogyro - an ultralight helicopter. Great for children and the whole family.
The family tour does not include prices as they depend on the hotels chosen, the age of the children and other factors.
