Rainforest of the Austrians
Conservation in Costa Rica!
The 160 km² Esquinas rainforest is located in the South Pacific of Costa Rica
This rainforest near la Gamba in the south of CR is one of the last remaining lowland rainforest areas on the Pacific coast of Central America; the most species-rich forests on earth are located here. On the edge of the Esquina rainforest there is a project that is unique in the world and launched by Austrians.
Not long ago, the almost 160 km² Esquinas rainforest in the southwest of Costa Rica was in acute danger. This tropical paradise is one of the last remaining lowland rainforests on the Pacific coast of Central America and is extremely rich in species. 180 tree species have been counted on one hectare of forest and 3,000 plant species grow here. 320 species of birds and rare animals such as jaguars, ocelots and four species of monkeys can be found here.
The “Rainforest of the Austrians” association, founded in 1991, has been dedicated to buying up the Esquinas rainforest since 1991. The land acquired with the help of donations will be donated to the National Park Administration of the Republic of Costa Rica and incorporated into the Piedras Blancas National Park.
By visiting the really attractive “Esquinas Rainforest Lodge” you support the project directly. The 18 rooms can be booked directly through us and are usually offered with half board and a rainforest tour. Many expeditions and tours into the rainforest can be undertaken from here. We can also organize a visit to Refugio Tinti from here.
The lodge has a natural water swimming pool; Prices include full or half board and all taxes. Vegetarian or vegan food is also available upon request.
