Mawamba Lodge is one of the pioneer families in Tortuguero National Park. Sr. Mauricio with his family and an excellent team founded this lodge 28 years ago and is constantly making improvements and innovations. And they did it fantastically.
With 38 standard rooms and 4 superior rooms, the lodge remains clear and familiar.
The restaurant serves delicious buffet-style food and a beautiful pool invites you to relax.
The bar and the neighboring Ranarium provide entertainment between demanding tours.
The nearby beach invites you to take long walks: between July and October, when the giant tortoises lay their eggs there, the beach is closed in the evenings. Then you are only allowed to watch the turtles spawning with a group organized by the lodge. Of course, the whole thing takes extreme precautions so as not to disturb the turtles under any circumstances.
Tortuguero can only be reached by boat or plane. A stay at the Mawamba Lodge should definitely be booked in conjunction with a tour - we are happy to advise you.
The normal offer is the three-day tour from/to San Jose, Santa Ana or another meeting point in the Central Valley. We are also happy to plan a pickup in the Caribbean, for example.
The tour can end again in the central valley, but we are also happy to plan the handover of the rental car in the Caribbean, a transfer to the beaches, to the Sarapiqui area or to la Fortuna. Or vice versa: we pick you up at the beaches, spend two nights in the lodge, and on the third day transfer to San José. You can also travel part of the way by bus/boat and return by plane.
You should definitely take advantage of all the tours and activities offered by the lodge - included in the price. There are also more tours that you can book on site.
For example, an early morning boat tour is offered, where you can easily observe the wildlife of the Tortuguero National Park. The professional guides know the national park like the back of their hand and have a lot of background information about the flora and fauna.
Our favorite is the kayak tour. This is after you have already taken part in the canal tour (incl.) with a guide and have had everything explained in detail. Then you do it all again in peace and quiet in your kayak. Great!
