Hike to Arenal Volcano and Cerro Chato

On your own to the Arenal and the secondary crater Chato

With the " Arenal Observatory Lodge " as a starting point, you can go on great hikes and tours to the Arenal volcano and Cerro Chato on good, marked hiking trails. The Arenal Observatory Lodge is a fantastic hotel well located on the south side of Arenal Volcano.

From the lodge there are numerous, well-marked hiking trails and paths to explore the area on your own.

You pay a small fee at the hotel entrance (approx. 8US$) and this gives you the right to use the lodge's entire network of paths, you get a map and you can also visit the small museum with the seismograph. You can refresh yourself in the restaurant and use the bathrooms.

There are 6 different circular routes, from 30 minutes to four hours (Cerro Chato). The circular routes can be easily combined. Rivers, small waterfalls and suspension bridges make the route varied and interesting.

You pass through primary forests, plateaus and regularly have a view of the 2 volcanoes.
