The central Pacific coast
is the actual local recreation area for people from San José and the surrounding area.
With the commissioning (in February 2010) of the highway #27 from San José to Calderas, the nearest beaches are only 50-60 minutes away from San José.
The coast on both sides of the Gulf of Nicoya has much to offer.
Long sandy beaches, jungle and rainforests all the way to the coast - that's the picture you see on the central west coast. Due to its proximity to the Central Valley, many hotels, restaurants and tour operators have of course settled on this stretch of coast. For example, you can take ultralight flights on the beach in Jacó , go paragliding at Puntarenas and you will find a paradise for snorkeling on Isla Tortuga .
There are many, many canopy routes, some with cable cars through the rainforest, where you have good opportunities to observe animals.
You can take a ferry from Puntarenas to the Nicoya Peninsula and from there explore the southern tip of the "Peninsula de Nicoya". The dream beaches of Montezuma and Santa Teresa await visitors here, surrounded by lush nature.
