The Laguna de Lagarto Lodge
Boca Tapada, Costa Rica, border with Nicaragua
This great option is located in the very northeast of Costa Rica, almost on the border with Nicaragua, in the middle of a primary rainforest.
A rustic jungle lodge where you are very close to nature. An insider tip for nature lovers and adventurers. In the middle of untouched nature you can still experience authentic jungle. The lodge has 22 double rooms overlooking its private, tranquil lagoon, all with en suite bathrooms and fans. Restaurant, bar and tour offers complete the offer.
The canoe tour, which you can start on your own, is a fantastically beautiful experience. This takes you directly to the jungle on one of the 2 lagoons, past rotten tree trunks covered in orchids and bromeliads. In the dark you take a short hike to the lagoon and that's when you see that it is also inhabited by large caimans. Both the canoe trip, the night trip and a guided jungle hike in the lodge's own rainforest are included in the room price.
The lodge is located on the edge of a 500 hectare tropical rainforest, far from any civilization. First you explore the jungle with one of the guides from the lodge, then you can explore the rainforest on your own at any time. Over 10 km of marked jungle paths are available.
Another experience is the tour on the Rio San Carlos, which starts from the lodge. On the river you reach the Rio San Juan and briefly travel along the river, which already belongs to Nicaragua. On the approximately three-hour boat trip you see many animals and reach the last village in the world: Boca de San Carlos - 100 souls, a lonely police station, a school and two bars.
