Day 1
Day 1: Sarapiquí – Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat
Transfer from our Posada to Sarapiquí.
Lake Jalapa: A lot of fresh air, peace and silence, where the only noise is coming from the surrounding nature.
The “Tapiria Wildlife Refuge” and the “Lake Jalapa” are two magical places where you and your family can enjoy very close contact to nature. Both attractions are located in the “Rojomaca Settlement”, nine miles west from Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí.
The tour consists of a hike on the recreational trails up to the quay and crossing the “Lake Jalapa” by boat in about two hours. Here you will be able to observe a great variety of birds and feel the peace and silence.
At the end of the boat ride, we will get back to the jungle for another 45 minutes to walk to the restaurant, where a delicious typical Costa Rican lunch is waiting, prepared with the products that the members of the community harvested in their fields.
You will also have the opportunity to enter the Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat and take a 90 minutes hike, where you will see a great number of animals like monkeys, armadillos, pacas, amphibians and huge variety of birds.

Day 2


Day 2: Rio Celeste (Hiking Tour in the Volcano Tenorio National Park)
Breakfast in Chilamate, Transfer to Rio Celeste
The Volcano Tenorio National Park is situated between the cantons of Guatuso and Upala of Alajuela, Bagaces, Cañas and Tilarán in the province of Guanacaste. The National Park is located in the Volcanic Mountain Range of Guanacaste.
In this area a variety of environments, ecosystems and species exists, distributed in eight different habitats, ranging from pre- montane rainforest to basal transition to “elfin cloud forests”.
The trekking through the Volcano Tenorio National Park takes more or less three miles and during the hike you will see the following attractions:
- Rio Celeste waterfall with a height of nearly 100 feet
- The panoramic view (overlooking the Massif of the Volcano Tenorio and Montezuma)
- The Blue Lagoon
- The Bubblings
- The hot springs
- The “Teñideros”, where the curious phenomenon of the blue coloration of the water can be observed.
Lunch will be served at the end of the tour.

Day 3


Day 3: Juan Castro Blanco National park – green Lagoon (Pozo Verde)

Transfer to the Juan Castro Blanco Nationalpark, Tour to the green lagoon:
The Juan Castro Blanco National Park is part of the “Arenal Huetar Norte Conservation Area” and is located in the southeast of the canton of San Carlos, in the province of Alajuela. We operate a hike in this colorful and mountainous National Park, where you can observe a huge variety of birds. In March and April, the observation of the famous Quetzal is quite common and you will be able to find a great number of species of endemic plants as well. The aim is to reach a lagoon of volcanic origin with emerald water and a depth of 15 meters. Here you will be able to enjoy the singing of birds and the beauty of this place.
After the hike the “Vargas family” will serve you a delicious lunch in their family restaurant.

Day 4

Day 4: La Fortuna – Waterfall
Breakfast in Albergue Monterreal, Transfer to La Fortuna
The “La Fortuna Waterfall” is a natural attraction located in the northern Zone, outside downtown “Fortuna de San Carlos”. The journey begins with a horseback ride with a family from the Z13 community to the Waterfall of the La Fortuna River. During the tour you will have the chance to enjoy the scenic beauty and picturesque surroundings of these places. In the area of the waterfall you can take a bath and have a rest in the natural reserve, enjoying the beautiful waterfall that is reaching up to a height of 220 feet.

Day 5: End of trip in La Fortuna.
