Bahia Drake, extreme southern Costa Rica
You can reach this exotic west coast of the Osa Peninsula by boat or plane
The only well-known place here is Drake's Bay, named after the famous pirate "Sir Francis Drake", who buried here (supposedly) several of his treasure chests. In Drakes Bay there is no real local center, the houses and Posadas are spread along the beach and inland.
Depatures to Drake's Bay are offered daily from Nature Air; just get in contact with us and we can help tu purchase your tickets. Bahia Drake is also accessible by land via 4x4 vehicles. However, if it rains strongly, the way back can be cut off. Shortly before the place, you will have to pass through a relatively large river, which rises quickly, even after short rains.
The most interesting way to reach Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula is by boat from Sierpe:
The boat trip is a very exciting experience. It takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to Drake's Bay. You will travel through the mangrove-lined waters of the Rio Sierpe, which will soon open in the Pacific Ocean. The meeting of the river and the open sea is quite an interesting spectacle; the captain will have a chance to test his skills.
For accommodation we recommend Jinettes de Osa, right next to the beach.
