beach town Montezuma
Nicoya Peninsula
Montezuma is a small beach town
It was discovered in the early seventies as a traveler's destination. There have been many immigrants that have settled here. This resulted in a casual and relaxed atmosphere.
The place is located at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula (9.65 ° N, 85.07 ° W) in the province of Puntarenas, on the protected Gulf of Nicoya. You can easily reach it in an hour's drive (42 miles) from the port Paquera.
In the village there are many hotels and restaurants, everything is very welcoming and nice.
The really attractive and well maintained Playa Grande de Montezuma has white sand, and is only accessible by foot from the village. The nature reserve of Cabo Blanco is very close to it, beautiful waterfalls in the green jungle can be reached by hiking. Right on the spot, there also is the very beautiful beach of Playa Montezuma.
The famous Montezuma waterfall, a series of three waterfalls, lies just outside the city. The beaches around Montezuma are almost deserted.
