Cerros de Escazú- protected zone, perfect for trekking
Very close to the capital San José, between the two suburbs Escazú and Santa Ana is the nature reserve "Los Cerros de Escazú". It is known as the “green lung” of the central valley, with agricultural culture, a few small settlements, forest and meadows. The reserve extends over 7,000 hectares.
The highest peak of the nature reserve is the "Cerro Rabo de Mico" with 2428 m altitude. There are other high mountains, which can be reached and seen from Santa Ana or Salitral.
The nature reserve is perfect for solitary walks on unknown paths, far off the normal tourist routes. One can start from Escazú, Santa Ana, Salitral or Ciudad Colon.
The "Cerros of Escazú" offer a great view all over the central valley and on the other side until the Pacific Ocean.
On wekends, at the windpark, near Santa Ana you will be able to find serveral typical Restaurants, all with a great view.
