Ciudad Colón near Santa Ana
Small town near a green mountain range
This friendly place is located only 8 kilometers west of Santa Ana ,with almost 12,000 inhabitants in a green setting at an altitude of 800 - 900m.
Ciudad Colon, originally called "Pacaca" by the Indians, was renamed in 1916 in honor of the discoverer of the continent, Columbus (Colón). It is located in the canton of Mora, a more agriculturally oriented Canton with a lot of coffee cultivation, fruit and sugar cane.
Ciudad Colon is through the new highway (Pista del sol) connected to San Jose in the east and the Pacific coast and Orotina in the West.
From here, you have access to a space surrounded by coffee plantation, the nature reserve "El Rodeo" and the University of Peace (Universidad de la Paz).
The International Peace University is based on an initiative of the UN. It is currently visited by almost 150 students from around the world, for programs focusing on peace studies, international law and human rights as well as conflict resolution.
Peace Park (Parque La Paz):
Right next to the university is the "Parque La Paz", a tropical installation with lakes, a picnic area and the Peace Monument, which commemorates the abolition of the military in Costa Rica in 1948.
