The Laguna de Lagarto Lodge
Boca Tapada, Frontier to Nicaragua
This great accommodation is located in the northeast of Costa Rica, almost on the border to Nicaragua, in the midst of a primary rainforest. A rustic jungle lodge, in which you will be close to nature. A secret tip for nature lovers and adventurers. Beautiful natural surroundings and you can still experience genuine jungle.
The lodge has 22 double rooms each with their own view over the quiet lagoon, all with private bathroom and fan. Restaurant, bar and tour packages are also available. The fair room rates vary depending on the season from 58 to 78 euros for double rooms, including tour packages. The meals are excluded.
A fantastically beautiful experience is the canoe trip, which you can start on your own. It leads you to one of the two lagoons directly in the jungle, through rotting tree trunks, which are full of orchids and bromeliads. In the dark, you then take a walk to the lagoon and you can discover that they are also inhabited by large Crocodiles. The canoe trip, the night tour and a guided jungle trek through the rainforest are included in the room rate of the lodge Suite.
The Lodge is situated on the edge of a 500-acre rainforest, far away of any civilization. First, we explore the jungle with one of the guides from the lodge. Afterwards you will have the opportunity to explore the rainforest on your own at any time. Over 10 km of marked trails through the rainforest are available.
Another experience is the trip down the Rio San Carlos, which starts at the lodge. B boat you will travel on the Rio San Juan, where you will be on Nicaraguan ground for a short amount of time. On the three-hour boat ride you can see many animals and reach the last village in the world: Boca de San Carlos: 100 souls, a lonely police station, a school and two bars.
