Wildlife - Los Llanos
3 Days wildlife Tour
On this 3-4 day tour to Los Llanos, the plains and savannah country of Venezuela, we offer the opportunity to get to know this unique landscape, and an intense adventure with a lot of wild animals.
The tour starts in Mérida and goes up to Apure, where we stay on an active hacienda. Wildlife viewing is the main attraction.
1. Day (- /L/D) From Mérida to Altamira
The most beautiful avenue of Venezuela leads through the colonial Andean villages. We visit a natural stone chapel (UNESCO Heritage Site), and the breeding center for Andean condor (Vultur gryphus). Then it continues up to 4200 meters to the Eagle Pass. In the odd scenery grows the Páramo vegetation "Frailejones" up to three meters high. On the glacier lagoon Mucubají you hike up to Laguna Negra. After the walk, we eat a freshly caught trout, fried in garlic.
Then it's back down to the outer wall of the Andes, along with various levels of vegetation, such as Páramo, elven forest and subtropical rainforest, up in the colonial village of Altamira. Here we will spend the night in a colonial, very well-appointed mansion, and enjoy a delicious dinner.
