Table Mountains Trekking Tour
Chirikayen 3 Days, 2 nights
Despite the Roraima is the most famous of the climbable "mesas", there is an alternative for people who do not have so much time, and would like to know the nature of a less significant Table Mountain: The Chirikayen is a Tepuy with only 1,650 m altitude, and easy to climb during three days. A journey through the savannah, primary-season rain forest, and you'll see small gold and diamond mines.
The tour gives a good view into the wonderful world of tepuis, with fantastic panoramic views. The ideal start for trekking.
First Day: Ascent to Camp
From Santa Elena we drive around 90 minutes to the starting point, from which we walk about two hours to see the gold and diamond hunters at work. Then we walk through the savannah and jungle for another two hours. While you are taking a bath, the guide is preparing your lunch. After lunch, we walk through the first rainforest season, followed by a 90 minute slope. Once at the top, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the jungle. Finally, the last 60 minutes, we follow up to our camp, in a small lagoon where a waterfall reaches.
Second Day: Accompanied by orchids to the top
After the breakfast, it takes around 45 minutes to get to the Table Mountain, and other 2 hours to climb it until the top of it. The trail is covered with orchids and carnivorous plants. To the campsite at the trailing edge we need another 2 hours. An unforgettable panoramic view will reward you for the effort! The afternoon is available to explore the plateau.
Third Day: Through the savannah, back to Sta. Elena
Today we go back to Sta. Elena. The path goes mainly through the savannah. Walking time: about 7 hours. With luck, we will see anteaters or deer. Once was even a jaguar seen, during the tour!
