Margarita Island, sun & beaches
Margarita, the largest island of Venezuela
Margarita has a population of about 900,000 people
In holiday seasons this number doubles quickly, because Margarita is famous as a shopping paradise. But not just for shopping Margarita. The Caribbean beaches of the island attract many visitors each year.
The number one beach is Playa el Agua. Crystal clear, blue water, and an excellent infrastructure make "Playa el Agua" one of the most popular beaches on the island of Margarita. But only a few kilometers south, "Playa Parguito" is especially popular for surfers.
Another very interesting beach is "Playa El Yaque" very close to the international airport "Santiago Mariño". Playa El Yaque is primarily known and popular for windsurfers. But also for people that just want to bath, and have certain claim for fine dining, make themselves feel comfortable there.
Margarita consists of two peninsulas. In the West, the more barren and uninhabited part, the Macanao Peninsula. To the east is the main island, which is located on the main city of Margarita: Porlamar (PMV).
Other cities are: "Pampatar", "Juan Griego", and "la Asuncion". La Asuncion is the capital of Margarita and government seat of the governor.
Activities in Margarita
A really important activity is swimming with dolphins. In waterland (same place as Diverland, the amusement park in Pampatar, in front of the shopping mall Sambil) you can go and swim with dolphins. You must be at least 1,20 m high, and pay around 50 Euros per person.
