mountains of Escazú
cerros de Escazú- protected zone, perfectly made for trekking
Very close to the capital San José, between the two suburbs Escazú and Santa Ana is the nature reserve "Los Cerros de Escazú". This is the “green lung” of the central valley, with agricultural culture, a few small settlements, forest and meadows. The reserve extends over 7,000 hectares.
DThe highest peak of the nature reserve is the "Cerro Rabo de Mico" with 2428 m altitude. There are other high mountains, which can be reached and seen from Santa Ana or Salitral.
The nature reserve is perfect for solitary walks on unknown paths, far off the normal tourist routes. One can start from Escazú, Santa Ana, Salitral or Ciudad Colon.
