The Southern Pacific, "Zona sur", is extremely attractive, offers incredibly interesting and varied landscapes, and is relatively in its infancy at a touristic point of view. The proximity to the border of Panama, the duty-free area near Golfito, and the large areas of rainforest on the Osa Peninsula and on the adjacent mainland, make this a especially worthwhile trip. Corcovado National Park, together with the accompanying rain forests, the largest contiguous rainforest in Central America. You may look for, in this section of the coast, the most pristine beaches of the Pacific, fantastic accommodations are available as starting points for exploring the nature.

This is a small, very family-run hotel in the town (and the beach), if you may call it “town”. The Posada is located on the sandy beach of Drakes Bay, amidst a private rainforest of 20,000 sqm. You must take a boat from Sierpe, a formerly quiet fishing village is situated on the quiet waters of the Rio Sierpe. The boat ride is an adventurous affair. It is about one and half hours until the Casa Corcovado.
The small town of Rio Claro is not the first option between any major attraction. But it offers a traffic-convenient location close to the border with Panama and Golfito, and the nearby national park "Piedras blancas". Therefore, Rio Claro provides a good starting point for learning the south of Costa Rica.
